technical support department to verify that the application supports such standards.

- Picture Publisher 8.0
The following layout applications currently support the 3.0 SDK:

E. WHAT GETS INSTALLED:
-----------------------------------------
The installation consists of the following files and documents:
- Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 Plug-in File
- Readme.txt
- Msvcrt.new
- PGE Application
- Distort tile Af435.afx
The content files do NOT get installed to your hard drive during the
installation process due to their size and number. If you wish to
copy them to your hard drive, you can do so at any time after the
installation has been completed.
The electronic version of the Photo/Graphic Edges Manual also
remains on the CD-ROM.
F. INSTALLING THE PLUG-IN:
----------------------------------------------
To begin installing Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0, simply click on the
installer icon and follow the on-screen instructions.
You will be prompted to select the folder for your applicationÆs
Photoshop compatible plug-in directory. Photo/Graphic Edges will
appear in the applicationÆs pull-down menu where Photoshop plug-ins
are accessible.
Depending on the application, you may have to identify (usually through
the File>Preferences Menu in the host application) the folder
where the plug-in resides. Consult your host applicationÆs manual
or call their technical support if you need further assistance in
determining where Photoshop plug-ins go and how to access them.
For PageMaker and Freehand products, fixed locations for the plug-ins
are used. You must install the plug-in in these locations for
the host application to access the plug-in properly:
PageMaker: Pm6/Rsrc/UsEnglsh/Plugins/Effects
Freehand: Fh7/Usenglsh/Xtras
(Note: You may need to substitute "Usenglsh" with your international
version folder name if required.)
For any other applications, you can typically place the plug-ins in
any folder, but you may have to initialize the location using the
applicationÆs Preferences. The following application reference
list identifies where you set the plug-inÆs location:
Canvas: Preferences>Painting>Plug-ins
Fractal Painter: Edit>Preferences>Plugins
Paint Shop Pro: Preferences>General Program Preferences>Plug-in Filters
PhotoPaint: Tools>Options>Plug-in Filters
PhotoDeluxe: File>Preferences>Plugins
Photoshop: File>Preferences>Plugins
G. RUNNING THE PLUG-IN FROM YOUR HOST APPLICATION:
--------------------------------------------------------
To set up the effect in an image editing application, you must first
have an image file open. If there is a selection made, the effect will
be applied to the selected area only; if there is no selection,
the effect is applied to the entire image.
To set up the effect in a layout or illustration application, you must
have first placed an image and have the picture box selected or image
area for the effect selected for the plug-in to be available in the
plug-ins menu.
If you have set up the image and installed the software correctly, the
Photo/Graphic Edges plug-in will be visible from within the host
application. Because each host application may access plug-ins
differently, the following list of host applications and related
menu commands to access Photoshop compatible plug-ins is provided.
- Canvas: Image>Filter>Auto F/X
- Illustrator: Filter>Auto F/X
- PageMaker: Element>Image>Photoshop Effects>Auto F/X
- Photoshop: Filter>Auto F/X
- PhotoDeluxe: Effects>Auto F/X
- PhotoPaint: Effects>Auto F/X
H. USING THE STAND-ALONE APPLICATION:
--------------------------------------------------------
Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 can also be used as a Stand-Alone application.
The executable file is accessible through your start menu. When you
launch the application, you will be prompted with an Open Dialog box.
At this point, you should select the image that you wish to edge.
(The application can open any regularly formatted graphic file.
These include: PSD, TIF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, TGA, EPS, PNG, PICT, and PCX.)
Once the application is open, it functions just as the plug-in version.
When you are ready to save your final image, simply click the Save
button and choose the format in which you wish to save your artwork.
The Stand-Alone Application might be advisable to use if your system
is low on memory as the system would be free from the extra bulk of the
host application running.
I. MEMORY MANAGEMENT:
-------------------------------------
Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 gets its memory from both RAM and Virtual Memory
from your startup system hard drive. It is helpful to set the RAM
allocation of the host application a little higher than normal while
running this software inorder to optimize performance.
It is also advisable to work in RGB mode rather than CMYK due to the
fact that images in CMYK mode generally use more system resources
compared to RGB mode.
Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 gets most of its memory from free system RAM
and requires at least 6 MB free to run. Check the memory of your system
under the Apple Menu "About this Macintosh" to check for the largest
unused block of memory before you start the plug-in. If necessary,
you can reduce the application RAM or quit other running applications
to free up more physical memory. This is done by hitting the Command-I
key when the program icon is selected. This brings up a menu which
has Minimum, Required, and Preferred Memory settings. Change the
Preferred memory box to raise or lower the applicationÆs memory usage
(This box is displayed in bytes. For example:a setting of 20000 equals
20MB of RAM). The applicationÆs memory usage is updated the next time
the application is launched.
When using OS 8+, it is advisable to turn on Virtual Memory, as Photo/Graphic
Edges can use part of your hard drive as RAM. In the Control Panels, select
Memory and click the Virtual Memory to ON. You also have the opportunity to
allocate more or less hard drive space to be used as Virtual Memory. Any
changes in this window only take effect once the machine has been restarted.
J. BUG REPORTS:
------------------------------------
If you experience a problem with Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 that you think might
be a bug, you can report it by sending a message to: techsupport@autofx.com.
Please describe in detail what you did, the edges and settings you used, any
